When talking about Bongo Fury the swedish formation talks about itself as power trio. Rikard Sjöblom (vocals, guitar), Rasmus Diamant (bass and background vocals) and Petter Diamant (drums and background vocals) are playing the music of Zappa. They play material from all over the place but mainly focused on the 60's and 70's catalogue with songs from We're Only In It For The Money, Hot Rats, Weasels Ripped My Flesh, Overnight Sensation, Apostrophe, Roxy & Elsewhere, to name a few...
Well, they are not only doing cover songs and are struggling with the notes of the master, they also take these tracks as basis for their extensive jams which leave a lot of room for spontaneity on stage. So it may happen that they will drift away into the progressive rock realm, or there's a change of style and their play is growing tougher: thanks to Hendrix!
The three members of the band are playing since 2001 in different formations. In 2006 the founded Bongo Fury and since then they tried to do justice to the work of Zappa. Besides Zappa they are influenced by Buddy Rich, Ian Paice, Les Claypool, James Jamerson, Jimi Hendrix and Robert Fripp, to be continued...
During the festival you will live to see Rikard Sjöblom also together with progrock Beardfish. Last year in september their first CD from his solo project Gungly with the titel "Please Be Quiet" was released. That's an invitation which won't be valid for you, standing before the stage.
