Die Drei vom Rhein

Die Drei vom Rhein

Die Drei vom Rhein were founded by Werner Neumann, Claus Fischer und Guido Jörris in 1993, the year Frank Zappa died. The first release of the band (Drei vom Rhein, Mons-Records) reached the Top Ten listener charts of the WDR as best German band, directly following Zappas „Yellow Shark“.

Alex Vesper joined as drummer on the second CD (Starke Gesten, Mons-Records) and still plays the drums. In this formation the band toured Germany, but was also invited to Indonesia (Jazzfestival Jakarta) and Turkey.

Stu Grimshaw played bass on a Central Asia tour through Kazakhstan and Kirghizia. The resulting third (unofficial) release was named Almaty Gogo.

For the fourth CD Helmuth Fass (bass) and later Pit Hupperten, (lead vocals and guitar) joined the band. This line-up exists until today and (although there are four musicians now) the name of the band was kept. In 2005 a Zappa program was compiled and presented on several Germany tours since then. The fifth CD (Drei vom Rhein plays Uncle Frank) was released. In 2013 the band was invited to Addis Abeba (Acacia Jazzfestival) .

Apart from their own releases Drei vom Rhein is also present on several compilations (e.g. Jazzhausmusik).

Drei vom Rhein loves to play with guest musicians, like Fred Köster, Mel Collins or Martin Auer.

The new program is a wild mixture of original compositions and Zappa songs. The latter, however tattered at will and pure arbitrariness, plucked and reassembled. Drei vom Rhein return to their roots, but remains faithful to the spirit of the music of Frank Zappa, which not only consists of humor, quintuplets or odd cycles.
