Dawnation (D)

Thursday July 18th, 2024 - 17:30 - Mystery Stage

DAWNATION are Bert, Christoph, Jan, Robert and Damian. We are at home in Neubrandenburg (Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania) and have been in the music business for many years with a variety of musical backgrounds - from the prog band "Glistening Dawn", the Beatles and Pink Floyd project "The Magical Mystery Band" to German pop -Ribbon “Poppy Blue”. Our influences range from Porcupine Tree, Spock's Beard to Pink Floyd, Genesis, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath to Archive and The National. We have been DAWNATION since 2017.
The debut album THE MAD BEHIND was released in 2020 and received excellent reviews in magazines such as “Eclipsed” or “Rock Hard” and online at “Betreuten Proggen”, “Babyblauen Seiten” or “Stoneprog”.

Excerpts from reviews of “...well for the past”:
“...´. Thumbs up for this classic rock craft in perfection with a lot of catchy melodies.
Walter Sehrer (Eclipsed Rock Magazine))

“...And with the following 4:52 minute “Fly” they have a secret hit on the album that gives you goosebumps. Above all, the wonderful guitar sounds and the catchy chorus make the song a high-flyer...With the German band Dawnation, a new star has appeared in the prog/art rock firmament...The album and the band are an absolute recommendation. Stephan Schelle (Music Circus Magazine)

“... the album rocks and puts you in a pretty good mood. “Dawnation” doesn’t easily fit into any categories. The album starts off very prog-rock with the instrumental intro 'Rise', but the subsequent 'Holes' (and also 'Fly' towards the end of the album) is pop-rock in perfection. Only “Fury In The Slaughterhouse” is similarly convincing in Germany. The goosebumps ballad 'Between' is more based on “Peter Gabriel”. “Jan Mecklenburg” proves (not only) that his singing can give the songs an intense emotionality. The following 'Worthless' begins ballad-like and turns into a true prog anthem towards the end, perhaps the strongest song on the album. And the last track ‘Fall’ is also magnificent. Electronic effects and melodic insane guitar solos dominate this incredibly atmospheric song, a worthy conclusion to a really strong album that skilfully presents a balanced and exciting mix of pop, rock and prog. Highly recommended!
Martin Dambeck (Baby Blue Pages, Empire Magazine)

Damian – Drums
