Zappanale and the World Cup at the same time? We want to show you this year that they can indeed go together. Zappa certainly wasn't interested in sports or the associated healthy lifestyle: tobacco was his vegetable! Nevertheless, this year we're putting together an exciting exhibition that offers games, fun, art, and music not only for Zappanale visitors, but for all football enthusiasts in and around Bad Doberan. Even if you're not into football at all: we promise everyone will have a very entertaining time (especially because admission is free, as always).
This year, all of this is taking place in a fantastic location: the Red Pavilion in the city park, just a few meters from the Zappa statue, offers a wonderful opportunity to present this exhibition with its unique atmosphere.
Our Zappanale artist #1, Helmut King, is passionate not only about Zappa, but also about football. He demonstrates this in many of his works, which he has created on this topic for more than 20 years. These include pictures titled "Wave," "Penalty," "Red Card," and "Volley." Fun and games are guaranteed at Helmut's foosball table, which he's played with Napoleon Murphy Brock, Jimmy Carl Black, and Arthur Brown.
And be prepared for surprises: Zappa will also make appearances here and there.
As in previous years, there will be fantastic special events. In addition to plenty of live music, Pamela Des Barres will share stories from her time as a nanny for the Zappa family, including some anecdotes. She looks forward to answering your questions about the infamous time at the Log Cabin.
The exhibition opens on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. Afterward, the exhibition will be open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
